New Permanent Representative of Guatemala Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the United Nations, José Alberto Sandoval Cojulún, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Prior to his appointment, from 2007 to 2013, Mr. Cojulún served as Ambassador and member of the Belize Commission at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  Between 2003 and 2005, he was Ambassador to the United Kingdom, having previously served as Ambassador to Spain and Morocco concurrently, from 1996 to 2002. 

In 1995, Mr. Cojulún was a Member of the Board of the National Finance Corporation, a role he assumed after having served as Advisor to the Ministry of Ministry of Public Finances, from 1987 to 1989.  From 1984 to 1986, he was Ambassador to Japan, concurrent with the Republic of Korea, Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Australia and Thailand.

Among his entrepreneurial roles, Mr. Cojulún served as Executive Director of Propiedades, Rentas e Inversiones, S.A.; Business and Assessment Company, S.A.; Colinas de Minerva, S.A. and Planes de Minerva, S.A.

Mr. Cojulún holds a master’s degree in corporate law from the Institute for Entrepreneurs of Madrid and a bachelor’s degree in juridical and social sciences from the University of San Carlos of Guatemala.  He also studied at London University; Center for Advanced Studies of Defence, Alede School, in Madrid; and University Francisco Marroquin, in Guatemala.

Mr. Cojulún is married.
