New Permanent Representative of Paraguay Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the United Nations, Federico Alberto González, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. González served as his country’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vice Minister for Economic Relations and Integration, and Chief of Protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  From October 2009 to December 2011, he was Paraguay’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, after serving as Ambassador to Venezuela.

From 2006 to 2007, Mr. González was Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, a post he was appointed to a second time in May 2014.  From 2004 to 2006, he was his country’s Ambassador to both the Republic of Korea and Mongolia, and during 2006 Ambassador to Malaysia and Indonesia.  From 2002 to 2004, he was Director-General for Multilateral Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Coordinator for Presidential Summits.

A career diplomat since 1992, Mr. González served in his country’s embassy in the United Kingdom from 1998 to 2001 and in the United States from 1992 to 1996.  He was Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1996 and 1998 and from 2001 and 2003.

In addition, he has taught international law, international relations and international trade in several universities and training institutions in Paraguay.

Mr. González holds a law degree from the National University of Asunción, Paraguay, a master’s degree in international law from Georgetown University, United States, and a master’s degree in international trade from the University of Maryland, also in the United States.

Born on 14 June 1968, he is married and has two children.
