Activities of Secretary-General in Ghana, 17-18 and 20 December

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon flew from New York to Accra, Ghana, on December 17, on his way to a visit to Ebola-affected countries in West Africa.

Upon arrival on Thursday, 18 December, he met with John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana, and offered his commendation of Ghana’s leadership in supporting the response to the crisis.

He then received a medical briefing, along with the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Margaret Chan, and his Special Envoy on Ebola, Dr. David Nabarro.

The Secretary-General then left for Monrovia, Liberia, on Friday, 19 December, the first leg of his visit to all Ebola-affected countries in West Africa.

The Secretary-General also made a stopover in Ghana at the end of his visit, on Saturday, 20 December.  He met with staff working at the headquarters in Accra of the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response, UNMEER, before heading back to New York.
