Secretary-General Welcomes High-Level Inter-Korean Dialogue, Pledging Utmost Support for ‘Such Meaningful Engagement’

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General welcomes the proposal of the Government of the Republic of Korea for high-level inter-Korean dialogue.  He sincerely hopes that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea authorities positively consider the proposal and engage in dialogue.

The Secretary-General reiterates his belief that renewed engagement and dialogue is the only way forward for building trust and promoting inter-Korean relations.  He will not spare any efforts to support such meaningful engagement.
