Secretary-General Congratulates King Felipe VI, Saying He Looks Forward

 

To Continuing Close Cooperation with Spain on Global Challenges

 


The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:


The Secretary-General congratulates His Majesty Felipe VI on his coronation as King of Spain and wishes him and Her Majesty Queen Letizia every success in fulfilling their important responsibilities.


The Secretary-General is grateful for the royal couple's active engagement in the areas of sustainable development, promotion of human rights and the fostering of dialogue among civilizations.  He looks forward to continuing the close cooperation between the United Nations and the Kingdom of Spain in efforts to address pressing global challenges.


The Secretary-General pays tribute to the outstanding public service His Majesty Juan Carlos of Spain has rendered for the past four decades and expresses his best wishes to him and to Queen Sofia.
