Don’t Let Extremists Destroy Children’s Future, Says Secretary-General
in Radio Appeal to People of Central African Republic
Following is the text of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s radio message to the people of the Central African Republic on 17 April:
Greetings to the people of the Central African Republic. This is Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations.
I have just visited your country to show my solidarity, hear your stories and share them with the world.
I continue to appeal to you. Stop fighting. Build peace.
Many of your fellow citizens have fled their homes. They must feel safe to return. Muslims and Christians have always lived together in peace. Don’t let extremists destroy your children’s future.
Those abusing human rights will be brought to justice. You will not be able to build your future through partition and bloodshed. Your future will be built through unity and peace.
These are difficult days. But I have hope. I will always stand with you for security, justice and dignity for all the people of your beautiful country. Thank you very much.
