SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS MAGDY MARTINEZ-SOLIMAN OF SPAIN as Assistant Administrator,
Director of Policy, Programme Support, United Nations Development Programme
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Magdy Martinez-Soliman of Spain as Assistant Administrator and Director of the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Mr. Martinez-Soliman is currently serving as Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director, Bureau for Development Policy in UNDP. Prior to this, he served as United Nations Regional Coordinator and UNDP Regional Representative, Mexico (2007-2012); Executive Director, United Nations Democracy Fund (2006-2007); Governance Practice Manager, UNDP (2003-2006); Senior Governance Adviser for West Africa, UNDP Senegal (2001-2003); International Parliamentary Expert, UNDP Bangladesh (1998-2001); City Councillor of Malaga (1995-1998); Lecturer, Department of International Law and International Relations of the Faculty of Law, Malaga University (1995-1998); Vice-Minister, Ministry of Presidency, and Spokesperson of the Government in Parliament, Government of Andalucía (Spain) (1993-1995) and Secretary of State for Youth, Government of Spain (1988-1993).
Mr. Martinez-Soliman holds a degree in law (Juris Doctor) from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and the Universidad of Malaga, and has been a Member of the Bar since 1985.
Born in 1961, he is married with one daughter.
