Sanctions Committee on Democratic Republic of Congo Draws Attention
to Recommendation on Due Diligence by UN Group of Experts
On 17 January 2014, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1533 (2004) concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) considered the final report of the Group of Experts on the DRC (S/2014/42), which is available on the Committee’s website: www.un.org/sc/committees/1533/egroup.shtml.
In this connection, the Committee wishes to draw attention to the following recommendation in the above-mentioned report which is addressed to all companies purchasing minerals in the Great Lakes region.
Paragraph 251: The Group of Experts recommends that companies conduct due diligence in minerals purchase in the Great Lakes region, in addition to investing in traceability schemes.
