Security Council Press Statement on Special Tribunal for Lebanon

 

The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President Zeid Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein ( Jordan):

The members of the Security Council welcomed the opening today of the trial at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, nearly nine years after the heinous terrorist attack that killed former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and 21 others.

The members of the Security Council stressed the vital importance of combating impunity for the long-term stability and security of Lebanon.

The members of the Security Council noted with gratitude the continuing support of the Government of Lebanon, and of other Member States, for the work of the Tribunal.
