Independent Audit Advisory Committee Holds Twenty-Fifth Session

 

at New York Headquarters, 19-21 February

The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations (IAAC) held its twenty-fifth session from 19 to 21 February.  The session, held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, was presided over by the Chairman, J. Christopher Mihm.  All the other current members of the IAAC — John F. S. Muwanga (Vice-Chairman), Natalia A. Bocharova and Maria Gracia M. Pulido Tan — were in attendance.

IAAC welcomed Ms. Bocharova ( Russian Federation) and Ms. Pulido Tan ( Philippines), as recently appointed members.

IAAC’s deliberations included, inter alia, meetings with:

1.                Carman Lapointe, Under-Secretary-General, and senior managers of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) regarding a wide range of matters, including: vacancies; OIOS strategic planning; annual and biannual goals for the outcomes and impacts sections of the “OIOS Programme Impact Pathway”, for OIOS overall and for its divisions, as appropriate; OIOS customer/client satisfaction data; and performance measures.  In addition, IAAC discussed OIOS internal risk management efforts, including risk identification, prioritization, management and monitoring efforts, and coordination with the Board of Auditors (BOA) and the Joint Inspection Unit.

2.                The Audit Operations Committee on the operational implications for the United Nations of the issues and trends apparent in the financial statements of the Organization and the reports of the BOA; the appropriateness of the accounting policies and disclosure practices; and the ongoing cooperation and coordination taking place among the oversight bodies.

The next (twenty-sixth) session of IAAC is scheduled for 8-10 April 2014 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
