United Nations Department of Public Information Increases Global Network of Associated Non-Governmental Organizations, Approving 15 More Groups

A total of 15 non-governmental organizations were approved for association with the United Nations Department of Public Information during the 6 June meeting of the Department’s Committee for Association in New York, bringing to 1,380 the number of such groups associated with the Department in the area of communications and information outreach.

In describing the Department’s partnerships with non-governmental organizations, Maher Nasser, Director of its Outreach Division, welcomed the newly associated groups, explaining that he looks forward to collaborating with them to achieve mutual goals and objectives.  He emphasized that the Department values its partnership with civil society and hopes that the newly associated organizations will participate in the Department of Public Information/Non-Governmental Organization Conference, to be held at New York Headquarters from 27 to 29 August.

The Department seeks to build on those partnerships to enhance outreach to civil society advocates.  The newly associated organizations cover a wide range of issues on the United Nations post-2015 development agenda including health, sustainable development, women, education, labour and refugees.

Following are the newly associated organizations: Asociación Centro de Capacitación y Promoción de la Democracia (El Salvador); Centro de Apoyo de Lactancia Materna (CALMA) (El Salvador); Centro de Estudios de Guatemala (Guatemala); City Montessori School Society (India); Colectiva para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos de las Mujeres en Guatemala (COEDEFEM) (Guatemala); Freedom From Fistula Foundation, Inc. (USA); Fundación de Antropología Forense de Guatemala (Guatemala); Fundacion Centro de Derechos Sociales del Immigrante (CENDEROS) (Costa Rica); Fundación Progresar (Guatemala); Hope to the Future Association (Republic of Korea); Organization for Livelihood Enhancement Services (Olives) (Ghana); Red Departamental de Mujeres Chiquimultecas “REDMUCH” (Guatemala); Sri Mathrudevi Vishwashanthi Ashram Trust (SMVA Trust) (United States); Tellus Institute (United States); World Federation of Independent Scouts — World Council (Germany).
