Iraq Joins Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons
On 24 September 2014, Iraq deposited its instrument of accession to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW); and consented to be bound by the Amendment to Article 1 of the Convention; Protocol I on non-detectable fragments; Protocol II and its amended version on mines, booby-traps and other devices; Protocol III on incendiary weapons; Protocol IV on blinding laser weapons; and Protocol V on explosive remnants of war.
Ambassador Remigiusz Henczel of Poland, Ambassador Päivi Kairamo of Finland and Ambassador Katerina Sequensova of the Czech Republic as the President-designates of the 2014 Meetings of the High Contracting Parties to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons, Amended Protocol II and Protocol V, welcomed Iraq as the 118th High Contracting Party to the CCW.
In welcoming Iraq’s accession, the President-designates stated, “ Iraq is an important country within the Middle East region and we hope that this will encourage other countries to join the CCW, which remains a key instrument of international humanitarian law.”
