New Permanent Representative of Poland Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Poland to the United Nations, Boguslaw Winid, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Until his appointment, Mr. Winid was Undersecretary of State for Security Policy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of his country, since 2011.  Between 2007 and 2001, he served as Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Between 2006 and 2007, he was Undersecretary of State for Defence Policy at Poland’s Ministry of National Defence.  He served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Polish Embassy from 2001 to 2006.  From 1997 to 2001, he held the position of Deputy Director and then Director of the Americas Department, in Warsaw.

With a career of more than two decades in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, beginning in 1991 at the Department of North and South America, he then served as First Secretary and, later, as Counsellor at his country’s Embassy in Washington, D.C., between 1992 and 1997.

Mr. Winid holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Polish-American relations from Warsaw University, Poland.  He also studied at Indiana University Bloomington and Stanford University, both in the United States.

Born in Warsaw in 1960, he is married with two children.
