New Permanent Observer for Gulf Cooperation Council Presents Appointment Letter

Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Alammar, the new Permanent Observer for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf to the United Nations, presented his letter of appointment to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Until his appointment, Mr. Alammar was Minister Plenipotentiary at the Gulf Cooperation Council Delegation to the European Union in Brussels, since October 2010.

At the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Mr. Alammar served as Counsellor responsible for international relations between 2008 and 2009, and First Secretary in the Cabinet of the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General between 2003 and 2008.  He also served in the Political Affairs Department as a Second Secretary from 1993 to 2002, having joined the Council as a Diplomatic Attaché in 1992.

Mr. Alammar earned a master’s degree in political science at Marshall University of West Virginia in 1989, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from King Saud University in 1986.

Born in Saudi Arabia in 1964, Mr. Alammar is married and has four children.
