New Permanent Representative of Finland Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Finland, Kai Jürgen Mikael Sauer, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Until his appointment, Mr. Sauer was Ambassador of Finland to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN), since 2010.  From 2007 to 2010, he served as Director of the United Nations Affairs unit of his country’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Between 2005 and 2007, he was Senior Adviser at the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Future Status Process for Kosovo (UNOSEK).  He also served in the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) from 2003 to 2005, first as Senior Adviser to the Head of the Mission and then as the Head of the Mission’s Strategic Analysis and Research Unit.

Starting his career in 1995 with the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sauer worked in the Political Department as Desk Officer, and in 2000 was assigned to the country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations as First Secretary.

Mr. Sauer received his Master of Social Sciences from the University of Tampere, Finland (1995).

Born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1967, he is married with two daughters.
