New Permanent Representative of Cabo Verde Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Cabo Verde to the United Nations, Fernando Jorge Wahnon Ferreira, today presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.


Until his latest appointment, Mr. Wahnon Ferreira was the National Director for Political Affairs and Cooperation in his country’s Ministry for External Relations since September 2011.  He served as a Counsellor in the Ministry from April 2010 to September 2011.


Mr. Wahnon Ferreira was Ambassador to Belgium from January 2000 to March 2010, gaining accreditation as Permanent Representative to the European Union in March 2000, to Luxembourg in June 2000 and to the Netherlands in November 2000.  He served as Ambassador to Sweden from February to December 1999.


Between September 1995 and June 1997, Mr. Wahnon Ferreira held the position of Director General for International Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communities, before which he served as Director of Multilateral Cooperation from February 1994 to August 1995.  He also served as Deputy to the Exchequer from June 1994 to April 1996.


Mr. Wahnon Ferreira was Legal Adviser and Head of the Foreign Ministry’s Legal Department from August 1989 to July 1990, and Head of the Division for International Organizations between June 1984 and July 1989.


He earned a post-master’s degree in law, with an emphasis on economic law, from the University of Lisbon, Portugal (1983).


Born on 4 December 1955, in Praia, Cabo Verde, Mr. Wahnon Ferreira is married and has two children.
