New Permanent Representative of Bhutan Presents Credentials

Kunzang C. Namgyel, the new Permanent Representative of Bhutan to the United Nations, presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.


Prior to her appointment, Ms. Namgyel was Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York since September 2011.  From June 2009 to August 2011, she was Director of the Multilateral Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thimphu.


Ms. Namgyel served as Chief of Protocol in the Foreign Ministry from August 2007 to May 2009, and as Minister Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva between July 2003 and July 2007.


She was Director for Bhutan at the Secretariat of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in Kathmandu, Nepal, from October 1995 to March 1999.


Ms. Namgyel has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lady Keane College in India.


She is married and has four children.
