New Permanent Representative of Uruguay Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Uruguay to the United Nations, Gonzalo Koncke Pizzorno, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.


Mr. Koncke previously served as Secretary General to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from August 2011.  He was Director General for International Economic Affairs from April 2010 to August 2011.


Between November 2009 and April 2010, Mr. Koncke served concurrently as Assistant Director General for Consular Affairs and Adviser to the State Ceremonial and Protocol Directorate.


He earned promotion to the rank of Minister-Counsellor in 2009, having been Consul General in the Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and País Vasco regions of Spain since 2004.  Mr. Koncke’s diplomatic service also included time as First Secretary (2002), Second Secretary (1998) as well as Secretary and Consul in Paris (1997-2002).  He worked in the Secretariat of the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1997, having joined the foreign service in 1995.


Mr. Koncke has a Bachelor of International Relations degree from the University of the Republic in Montevideo, Uruguay, and a Bachelor of International Business and Integration from the Universidad Católica del Uruguay Dámaso Antonio Larrañaga.


He was born on 27 May 1970 in Montevideo.
