Activities of Secretary-General in Denmark, 22-23 October

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark, around noon on Tuesday, 22 October, after flying from New York through London.

The Secretary-General attended a meeting with the international pension funds hosted by Bjarne Corydon, Minister for Finance.

Then, the Secretary-General gave a keynote speech at the Global Green Growth Forum.  In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of increased action and ambition on climate change.  (See Press Release SG/SM/15411.)

Later in the afternoon, he met with Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Prime Minister of Denmark, and spoke to the media about their meeting and the situation in Syria.  The Secretary-General also met with Mogens Lykketoft, Speaker of the Danish Parliament.

That evening, the Secretary-General was a guest at a dinner hosted by Martin Lidegaard, Minister for Climate, Energy and Building at Copenhagen’s Rundetårn (Round Tower).

On the morning of Wednesday, 23 October, the Secretary-General had a breakfast meeting with Christian Friis Bach, Minister for Development Cooperation of Denmark.

Then the Secretary-General held a joint press conferencewith Minister Lidegaard.  The Secretary-General said we must do our utmost work to unlock the barriers to climate finance that exist across the global economy.

Following the press conference, the Secretary-General spoke at a meeting on climate finance.  In his opening remarks, he said climate finance is investing in the future.  (See Press Release SG/SM/15413.)

The Secretary-General then launched the Energy Efficiency Hub at the UN City in Copenhagen.  (See Press Release SG/SM/15414.)

Before returning to New York, the Secretary-General spoke to a large group of Danish university students at a town hall meeting.  (See Press Release SG/SM/15417.)

The Secretary-General arrived back in New York in the evening on Wednesday, 23 October.
