Secretary-General Strongly Condemns Deadly Attack on Convoy Carrying
European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo Staff Members
The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack on a convoy of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) which occurred today in northern Kosovo and resulted in the death of one EULEX staff member. The Secretary-General expresses his sincere condolences to the family of the EULEX staff member who lost his life.
He further calls for a swift and thorough investigation to bring to justice the perpetrators of this cowardly attack. UNMIK (United Nations Interim Administration in Kosovo) is providing its full support in this regard.
The Secretary-General also underlines the key role played by the international presences in Kosovo. He stresses the importance for all concerned to cooperate with the investigation and ensure security and freedom of movement of EULEX and other international presences in the implementation of their respective mandates.
