Vittorio Cammarota of Italy Appointed Director of United Nations


Information Centre in Islamabad, Pakistan


United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is pleased to announce the appointment of Vittorio Cammarota as Director of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Islamabad, Pakistan.  He assumed his duties on 15 August.


A national of Italy, Mr. Cammarota’s most recently served as the World Health Organization’s (WHO) External Relations Officer and Focal Point for the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Stop Tuberculosis.  He previously worked in the private sector and for the Government of Italy.


Mr. Cammarota has expertise in developing and implementing communications strategies, as well as extensive experience working with the media and civil society, non-governmental organizations dealing with health issues in particular.  He has a strong understanding of the “Delivering as One” pilot programme in Pakistan, as well as of the work of the United Nations in the country.


He holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Rome.
