Department of Public Information Associates 25 New Non-Governmental Partners,
Strengthening Ties with Civil Society Worldwide
On 13 December, the Department of Public Information/Non-Governmental Organizations Committee associated 25 non-governmental organizations with the United Nations Department of Public Information. This brings to 1,627 the number of non-governmental organizations working with the Department in the area of communications and outreach.
The Director of the Outreach Division at the United Nations Department of Public Information, Maher Nasser, welcomed the new group, which includes non-governmental organizations from Latin America, Europe and North America. The newly associated organizations come from Chile, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador and the United States. The new partners engage civil society on a range of important topics, including economic development; women’s rights; ending poverty; and education.
Mr. Nasser stated that he looks forward to collaborating with these newly associated organizations to achieve mutual goals and objectives. He emphasized that the sixty-fifth DPI/NGO Conference to be held in summer 2014 at United Nations Headquarters in New York will provide civil society with a special opportunity to contribute to the discussions on the post-2015 development agenda. The Department of Public Information greatly values its partnership with civil society and welcomes the newly associated non-governmental organizations and their involvement in the work of the United Nations.
