Charter Committee Elects Remaining Vice-President for Current Session
In a brief plenary meeting today, the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization elected Marcel Van den Bogaard ( Netherlands), from the Western European States Group, as Vice-President of its 2013 session, concluding the election of its bureau members.
In that role, Mr. Van den Bogaard joins Aleksas Dambrauskas ( Lithuania), from the Eastern European States Group, and Leandro Vieira Silva ( Brazil), from the Latin American and Caribbean States Group, who were elected as Vice-Presidents last week.
Immediately following the election, Chair Jean-Francis Régis Zinsou ( Benin) called delegates into a closed Working Group meeting to take up the issue of working methods.
The Special Committee was established in 1975 to examine proposals to enhance the United Nations’ role in maintaining peace and security, to advance cooperation among nations and to promote international law.
Delegates will reconvene in plenary Wednesday, 27 February, to continue and conclude the 2013 session.
