General Assembly Appoints Japanese Envoy to Advisory Committee
on Administrative and Budgetary Questions
Convening briefly this morning, the General Assembly appointed Toshihiro Aiki ( Japan) to fill a vacancy on the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions, which had arisen due to the recent resignation of one of its members.
Appointed by consensus, Mr. Aiki will replace Akira Sugiyama ( Japan), whose resignation becomes effective on 12 August. Mr. Aiki will fill the vacancy for the remaining period of the term of office of Mr. Sugiyama, which expires on 31 December 2013.
Mr. Aiki presently serves as Minister for the United Nations Administrative and Budgetary Affairs Section of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations. He has served in the Japanese Foreign Service for more than 28 years, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law from the University of Tokyo and a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Columbia University.
The Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions is a subsidiary organ of the General Assembly consisting of 16 members appointed in their individual capacity. It is responsible for reviewing and reporting on the budget submitted by the Secretary-General to the General Assembly, and, among its other functions, advising the Assembly on any administrative and budgetary matters referred to it.
