Janne Taalas of Finland Elected Chair of Fifth Committee
Janne Taalas, Deputy Permanent Representative of Finland to the United Nations, was elected Chair of the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) on 1 October 2013. (See Press Release GA/11432.)
Before taking over as Deputy Permanent Representative of Finland in August 2010, Mr. Taalas was Director of Policy Planning and Research at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. From 2007 to 2008, he was Deputy Head of the Finnish Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Chairmanship Task Force, after serving as Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations from 2004 to 2007. From 2000 to 2004, he was First Secretary at his country’s Permanent Mission to the OSCE. He joined the Ministry in 1997.
Mr. Taalas is married and has two children.
