Biographical Note

New Permanent Representative of Republic of Korea Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations, Oh Joon, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki‑moon today.

Prior to that appointment, Mr. Oh was Ambassador to Singapore from 2010 to 2013, before which he served as Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade from 2008 to 2010.

Mr. Oh served in various capacities, including Special Adviser to the Foreign Minister from 2007 to 2008.  Between 2005 and 2007, he was Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.  He served as a Minister at his country’s Embassy in Brazil (2002-2003) and Deputy Director-General for Policy Planning (1999-2001).  He joined the Foreign Ministry in 1978.

Ambassador Oh holds a master’s degree in international policy studies from Stanford University and a bachelor’s in French literature from Seoul National University.

Born in Seoul in 1951, Mr. Oh is married and has two children.
