Biographical Note

NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF UNITED ARAB EMIRATES PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates, Lana Nusseibeh, presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Prior to her appointment, Ms. Nusseibeh served in a number of capacities in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, most recently as the founding Director of its Policy Planning Department from 2010 to 2013.  During her tenure at the Ministry, she was Deputy Sherpa for her country’s participation in the participation in the G20, Co-Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, a member of the Ministerial Task Force and of the Foreign Ministry’s Special Task Force on Syria.

Prior to that, Ms. Nusseibeh headed the Ministry’s International Renewable Energy Agency Task Force from 2009 to 2010, contributing to the international diplomatic effort to win the bid to host the headquarters of the newly established International Renewable Energy Agency in Abu Dhabi.

Between 2006 and 2009, she was the Director of Research and Communications in the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, where she advised the Ministry on issues including labour, human rights, human trafficking, education, women’s empowerment and political participation

Ms. Nusseibeh was previously an analyst with the Security and Terrorism Programme of the Gulf Research Centre, between 2004 and 2006, and a consultant for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris from 2000 to 2001.

She holds two master’s degrees, one in Israeli and Jewish diaspora studies from the University of London, and the other in history from the University of Cambridge.
