New Permanent Representative of Bahamas Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of the Bahamas to the United Nations, Elliston Rahming, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

From 2005 until his latest appointment, Mr. Rahming was the Superintendent of Her Majesty’s Prison of the Bahamas.  Prior to that, from 2002 to 2005, he served as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister.  Earlier, from 1982 to 1986, he served as Special Adviser to the Prime Minister.  He was a consultant and adviser on crime in the Ministry of National Security from 1989 to 1992.

In academia from 1994 to 2002, Mr. Rahming was the Executive Director of both the Bahamas Campus of the Baltimore, Maryland-based Sojourner Douglass College and the R.E.S.P.E.C.T Academy.  He founded the InterTech Group in 2000 and has since served as its Chairman, and he headed the YMCA of Greater Miami from 1986 to 1989.

Mr. Rahming holds a Doctorate of Philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, United States with a concentration in criminology; a Master of Social Work, with a focus on social policy, also from Washington University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. 

Dr. Rahming was born in 1954 and is married.
