New Permanent Representative of Serbia Presents Credentials

Milan Milanović, the new Permanent Representative of Serbia to the United Nations, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Until his appointment, Mr. Milanović was Deputy Permanent Representative since 2009.  Before that, he was Director of the Department for Partnership for Peace in the Sector for Security Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 2006, he was promoted to Ambassador-at-Large in the Ministry’s Department for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, after heading that Department when it was first established in 2005.  From 2001 to 2005, he served as First Counsellor for Economic Affairs in the Paris Embassy of Serbia and Montenegro and Representative to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Milanović was Deputy and then Acting Chef de Cabinet in the Ministry.  Between 1993 and 1998, he was Third and then Second Secretary in the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva, having served as an Attaché and then as Third Secretary in the Ministry’s Sector for Economic Affairs from 1988, upon joining the Foreign Service of the then Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, until 1993 after graduating from the School of Economics at the University of Belgrade.

Fluent in English and French, he is married and has two sons.
