Secretary-General Regrets Peacekeeper’s Death in Democratic Republic of Congo
The following statement was issued on 6 July by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General deeply regrets the death of a United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) peacekeeper from India in Bunagana, North Kivu, who was caught in crossfire in clashes between the Congolese Army and armed mutineers who call themselves the M23 Group.
The Secretary-General expresses his serious concern about the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and calls for an immediate end to all violence perpetrated by armed groups.
The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the family of the victim and to the Government and people of India.
