Amid Clashes in Sudanese Border Region, Secretary-General Calls on Governments


of Sudan, South Sudan to Implement Security, Border Agreements

 


The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:


The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the military clashes in the border region and calls on the Governments of Sudan and South Sudan to fully respect and implement the agreements they have already reached on security, border monitoring and Abyei.


He urges the parties to utilize tothe fullest extent existing political and security mechanisms to peacefully address their differences.  The Secretary-General welcomes the spirit of cooperation recently shown by the Governments of Sudan and South Sudan in addressing outstanding post-secession issues.  He urges the two Heads of State to meet as planned in a Summit on 3 April.
