Secretary-General, Concerned about Critical Timing of Haiti Prime Minister’s
Resignation, Urges His Prompt Replacement in People’s Interest
The following statement was issued on 24 February by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General wishes to express his concern following the resignation of Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille four months after his appointment. This resignation comes at a time when the Haitian people are eager to embark decisively on the path towards reconstruction, economic growth and the strengthening of the country’s rule-of-law institutions.
The Secretary-General urges the Haitian authorities to act in the interests of the Haitian people and appoint a new Prime Minister as soon as possible.
