Secretary-General Welcomes Memorandum of Understanding on Non-Aggression

 

and Cooperation between Sudan, South Sudan

 


The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:


The Secretary-General welcomes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Non-Aggression and Cooperation between the Governments of Sudan and South Sudan in Addis Ababa on 10 February 2012.


He urges both Governments to maintain the positive spirit that led to the signature of this Memorandum of Understanding, and abide by its provisions, including respect for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in the internal affairs of the other State, and reject the use of force in conducting their relations.  He also encourages them to reach agreements on all outstanding issues.
