United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced today the appointment of Ernesto Enrique Baca of Argentina as Assistant Secretary-General, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Project, Department of Management. 


Mr. Baca brings with him extensive experience in leading major business transformations, large-scale process re-engineering and change management initiatives, including enterprise resource planning system implementation in the United Nations system and the private sector. 


In early 2012, Mr. Baca guided the implementation of the United Nations Enterprise Resource Planning project.  In his capacity as the Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology and Management Services in the World Food Programme (WFP), he led their corporate business transformation and information technology projects. 


Before joining the United Nations Mr. Baca acted as the Chief Executive Officer of Telecarrier International Inc. in Panama.  Previously, he held senior positions at Telecom Argentina, where after successive promotions he was appointed Director of Operations.


Mr. Baca started his professional career in IBM Corporation.  During a period of 14 years, he held various progressively responsible positions in IBM Argentina and IBM Headquarters, New York.


Born in 1949, he is married and has three children.
