Secretary-General Designates David Scheffer of United States as Special Expert
to Extraordinary Chambers in Courts of Cambodia
The Secretary-General has designated David Scheffer of the United States as the Special Expert to advise on the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials, for an initial period of six months, replacing Clint Williamson, whose term of office expired on 30 September 2011. The Secretary-General is grateful to Mr. Williamson for his service as Special Expert.
Mr. Scheffer is very well qualified to provide expert advice on the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials during this critical phase for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts Cambodia (ECCC). He was involved in the establishment of the ECCC, the International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the International Criminal Court and the Special Court for Sierra Leone. He served as the United States Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues from 1997 to 2001.
