Music Legend Stevie Wonder to Deliver ‘Message of Peace’

at Celebrity-Filled 2012 United Nations Day Concert

In celebration of the sixty-seventh anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations Organization, the 2012 United Nations Day Concert “A Message of Peace featuring United Nations Messenger of Peace Stevie Wonder”, will take place on Wednesday, 24 October, at 7 p.m. at the United Nations in New York.

The Concert will be presented by the United Nations, Wonder Productions and BET Networks and will feature Grammy Award-winning artist and United Nations Messenger of Peace Stevie Wonder performing some of his best known songs live from the historic stage of the General Assembly Hall at United Nations Headquarters.

The musical celebration will also include special appearances by Sting, Paul Simon and others, in a unique celebration of the work of the United Nations in the areas of humanitarian assistance, gender equality, human rights, peacekeeping, economic and sustainable development, and, in particular, its focus on the disadvantaged and disenfranchised, refugees, and people with disabilities around the globe.

United Nations Day, marked annually on 24 October, is dedicated to the global efforts and achievements of the Organization since its founding on this date in 1945.

In his message for United Nations Day 2012, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said:  “The United Nations is a peacekeeper disarming fighters, a health worker distributing medicine, a relief team aiding refugees, a human rights expert helping deliver justice.  No single leader, country or institution can do everything.  But each of us, in our own way, can do something.  On this UN Day, let us reaffirm our individual commitment and our collective resolve to live up to the ideals of the United Nations Charter and build a better world for all.”
