Second Committee Elects Vice-Chair to Fill Remaining Bureau Vacancy
The Second Committee (Economic and Financial) met this morning to fill the remaining vacant position on its Bureau for the sixty-seventh session of the General Assembly.
By acclamation, it elected Modest Jonathan Mero (United Republic of Tanzania) from the Group of African States as Vice-Chair, before adopting, as orally amended, the “Organization of work of the Second Committee” (document A/C.2/67/L.1).
During the meeting, Committee Chair George Wilfred Talbot (Guyana) discussed the body’s working methods and proposed six special events on the following topics: lessons learned from the debt crisis and ongoing work on sovereign debt restructuring and debt resolution mechanisms, pursuant to General Assembly resolution 66/189; science and technology and innovation: a new development paradigm; the challenges of countries under special situations/the special challenges of middle-income countries; follow-up to Rio+20 on sustainable development goals; entrepreneurship for development; and migration and development: causes and impacts.
The Second Committee will meet again at 10 a.m. on Monday, 8 October.
