Economic and Social Council Elects Mootaz Khalil ( Egypt) Vice-President
Resuming its 2012 organizational session today, the Economic and Social Council elected a Vice-President to its Bureau to fill the vacancy left by Maged Abdelaziz, the former Permanent Representative of Egypt, who had relinquished his post as Vice-President of the Council for 2012.
In the first order of business, the 54-Member Council elected Mootaz Khalil also of Egypt, Vice-President by acclamation, replacing Mr. Abdelaziz following the Group of African States endorsement of Mr. Khalil’s candidacy to continue with the unexpired term of Mr. Abdelaziz.
Immediately following the adjournment of the meeting to elect the Vice-President, the Council held an informal briefing in preparation for its forthcoming general segment, which will be held 23-27 July.
