New Permanent Representative of SEYCHELLES Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Seychelles to the United Nations, Marie-Louise Potter, presented her credentials today to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Concurrently accredited as Ambassador to the United States, Ms. Potter was until her new appointment Leader of Government Business in Parliament, a position she held since 2007.  She was first elected to the Central Committee of the Seychelles People’s Progressive Front in 2005, and re-elected in January this year.

Ms. Potter served two consecutive terms as Member of the National Assembly for Beau Vallon, between 1993 and 2002, and was the Director in the Ministry of Local Government, Youth and Sports in 1993.

In 1992 and 1993, she was a delegate of the Seychelles People’s Progressive Front to the Constitutional Commission that drew up the present Constitution of the Third Republic of Seychelles.  Her extensive legislative career also includes participation in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and the International Parliamentary Union.

Educated in Seychelles and Cuba, Ms. Potter holds a degree in political and social sciences.

Born on 15 March 1959 in Seychelles, she is married and has three children.
