New Permanent Representative of Mauritania Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Mauritania to the United Nations, Ahmed Ould Teguedi, today presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Ould Teguedi served in his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation with the rank of Ambassador, after having been Ambassador to Israel from 1999 to 2009 and, previously, head of the office responsible for Mauritanian interests in Tel Aviv between 1995 and 1999.

Mr. Ould Teguedi was First Counsellor and Chargé d’affaires at Mauritania’s Embassy in Morocco from 1993 to 1995, having held a similar position in Yemen between 1991 and 1993.  He was First Counsellor in Egypt from August 1988 to December 1990, and gained an appointment as Chargé d’affaires from August of that year.

From 1987 to 1988, he served as Second Counsellor in Washington, D.C., where he was also in charge of relations with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).  A career diplomat, Mr. Ould Teguedi joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1981, the year in which he headed the Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Americas and European Economic Community/African-Caribbean-Pacific Divisions.

Born in Chinguetti, Mauritania, in 1954, he holds a master’s degree in economic planning and cybernetics from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, Romania.
