Secretary-General Calls for Restraint in Papua New Guinea Leadership Dispute
The following statement was issued on 13 December by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General is concerned about the current tensions in Papua New Guinea in connection with the disputed prime ministership. He calls on all sides to exercise maximum restraint and to avoid an escalation of the situation. The Secretary-General hopes that the crisis will be resolved soon in a peaceful manner in accordance with the Constitution.
