Secretary-General, Welcoming Resumption of Serbia-Kosovo Dialogue,
Hails Adoption of ‘IBM Agreed Conclusions’ as ‘Encouraging’
The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General welcomes the resumption of the European Union-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina on 30 November 2011, and is encouraged by the adoption of the “IBM Agreed Conclusions” on 2 December 2011, which are expected to pave the way for the normalization of the situation at gates 1 and 31, and the restoration of freedom of movement in a peaceful manner.
The Secretary-General urges the sides to further develop and implement, in good faith, arrangements based on these Conclusions, which are consistent with resolution 1244 (1999).
The Secretary-General also calls on all parties to honour the agreements reached in the framework of the dialogue, to refrain from unilateral action, and to actively support the de-escalation of tensions on the ground.
