Secretary-General Hails Outcome of All Darfur Stakeholders Conference

as Basis for Permanent Ceasefire, Inclusive Peace Settlement

 

The following statement was issued on 4 June by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General welcomes the outcome of the All Darfur Stakeholders Conference as the basis for reaching a permanent ceasefire and inclusive peace settlement, and sustainable peace and stability in Darfur.

The Secretary-General thanks His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, the Government of the State of Qatar, and all international partners for the support they have provided to the Joint African Union-United Nations Mediation in realizing the progress achieved thus far.

The Secretary-General calls on the parties to end hostilities without delay, sign a ceasefire and make the compromises necessary to reach a sustainable peace.
