Secretary-General Saddened by Deaths of United Nations Staff in Bolivia
The following statement was issued on 8 May by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General said today he was deeply saddened to learn that four staff members of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), along with two air force pilots, were killed in a plane crash in Bolivia while monitoring for narcotic crops.
He sends his sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the UNODC staff and the Bolivian military pilots.
Their dedication to the fight against narcotic drugs will be a lasting legacy and is an inspiration to us all, the Secretary-General said.
