Secretary-General Appoints Kiran Mehra-Kerpelman as Director
of United Nations Information Centre in New Delhi
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is pleased to announce the appointment of Kiran Mehra-Kerpelman as Director of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in New Delhi, India. She will assume her new duties on 1 February 2011.
Since August 2004, Ms. Mehra-Kerpelman has served as the Chief of the Web, Information Production and Dissemination Unit for the International Labour Organization (ILO). From December 1997 to September 2003, she was the Managing Editor and Senior Public Information Officer at ILO, where she introduced computer technology into all aspects of her public information work and was instrumental in building the first public web pages for ILO. Prior to that, she served as the Editor and the Production Manager of the World of Work, ILO’s flagship magazine. Before joining ILO, from February 1984 to March 1990, Ms. Mehra-Kerpelman was an Editorial Assistant with the UN Disaster Relief Organization.
A national of the United States, Ms Mehra-Kerpelman has a Master of Arts degree in Public Information from the St. George University International, Oxford, United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of New Delhi, India. She is married and has a son and a daughter.
