Independent Audit Advisory Committee Holds Fifteenth Session, 11-13 July

 


The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations (IAAC) held its fifteenth session from 11 to 13 July.  The session, which was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, was presided over by the Chairman, David M. Walker.  All the other members of the IAAC, namely John Muwanga (Vice-Chairman), Vadim V. Dubinkin, Vinod Rai and Adrian P. Strachan, were in attendance.


The IAAC’s agenda for the fifteenth session included meetings with:


1.                The Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, to update him on the work of the IAAC and on other matters of mutual interest.


2.                The Under-Secretary-General, Carman L. Lapointe, (via teleconference with the Chairman), and senior managers and staff of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) regarding a wide range of OIOS matters, including funding arrangements, risk assessments conducted and value provided by OIOS, and performance audits.  In addition, the Committee discussed standard agenda items with OIOS, such as relationships with management, high risks identified by OIOS, coordination with various oversight bodies, implementation of oversight recommendations and the OIOS staff vacancies.


3.                The Controller, Jun Yamazaki, who briefed the IAAC on behalf of the Under-Secretary-General for Management.  In this regard, the IAAC was briefed on the status of the implementation of the accountability resolution A/RES/64/259, including Enterprise Risk Management, and the status of the implementation of recommendations of oversight bodies.


4.                The United Nations Board of Auditors to discuss the issues related to its work including coordination among oversight bodies, on the trends in the financial statements of the United Nations, and the status of IPSAS implementation.


5.                The Chairman of the Joint Inspection Unit to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern.


The sixteenth session of the IAAC is scheduled for the week of 12 December 2011 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
