Independent Audit Advisory Committee Holds Fourteenth Session, 12-13 April

 


The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations (IAAC) held its fourteenth session from 12 to 13 April at United Nations Headquarters in New York.


Chairman David M. Walker presided over the first part of the session and John Muwanga, the Vice-Chairman, over the second part, with all other members in attendance, namely Vadim V. Dubinkin, Vinod Rai and Adrian P. Strachan.


The agenda for the fourteenth session included meetings with:


1.                The Under-Secretary-General and senior managers and staff of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) regarding a wide range of OIOS-related matters, including an overview of the budget utilization and the 2012-13 budget proposal.  The IAAC continued its discussions with OIOS on the risk-based work planning process and various issues relating to the Investigations Division.  In addition, the Committee discussed standard agenda items with OIOS such as high risks identified by OIOS, implementation of oversight recommendations, and OIOS staff vacancies;


2.                The Controller, who briefed the IAAC on the 2012-2013 Programme budget proposal for OIOS.  The IAAC was also briefed on the trends in the budget utilization for the past three bienniums.


3.                The Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO), who briefed the IAAC on the status of OIOS recommendations regarding the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) project.  Realizing the importance of a successful implementation of the Umoja project, the Committee members followed up on the critical recommendations that OIOS made in this regard.  The IAAC, pursuant to the prior briefings received from the Controller and Under-Secretary-General, Department of Management, on the status of International Public Sector Accounting Standards and ERP implementation, received an update on the role of the Office of Information and Communication Technology in this process.


The fifteenth session of the IAAC is scheduled for 11 to 13 July 2011 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
