Photo Exhibit to Mark International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers
In observance of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers on 29 May, a multimedia exhibit will be open to the public 27 May through mid‑July in the North-East Gallery of the Visitors Lobby at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The demand for United Nations peacekeeping has never been greater than today, when more than 120,000 military, police and civilian personnel serve in 15 peace operations in hot spots around the world. Increasingly important is the role of United Nations peacekeeping operations in helping develop the capacity and professionalism of nascent rule of law institutions — the police, courts and corrections systems — in countries where they are deployed.
Entitled “Law. Order. Peace.”, the exhibit highlights the work of United Nations police, corrections officers and justice experts, with photos taken by photographers and staff members of United Nations peacekeeping operations.
This exhibition is sponsored by the United Nations Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Public Information.
