New Permanent Observer for Gulf Cooperation Council Presents Appointment Letter

The new Permanent Observer of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf to the United Nations, Adnan Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ansari, presented his letter of appointment today to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.


Prior to his appointment, Mr. Al-Ansari, a national of Oman, was Head of Political Analysis at the Office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs since 2007.  Before that, he held the position of Head of Information and Follow-up Centre in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, from 2003 to 2007.


From 2000 until 2003, the new Permanent Observer was Director of the Translation Office, also in the Foreign Affairs Ministry.  He was Head of News Editing of Oman TV and Radio in the Ministry of Information from 1981 to 2000.


The new envoy holds a bachelor’s degree in political science (January 1988) from Alexandria University, Egypt, and from the Arabic Institute for Research and Studies — Egypt, a diploma in political science (May 2000), a master’s degree in political science (June 2003) and a Doctorate of Philosophy in political science (December 2003).


Born on 5 February 1964, Mr. Al-Ansari is married with seven children.
