New Permanent Representative of Viet Nam Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, Le Hoai Trung, presented his credentials today to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.


Until his appointment, Mr. Le was his country’s Deputy Foreign Minister from December 2010.  For three years prior, between 2007 and 2010, he was Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  From 2002 to 2006, he served as Deputy Director-General.


From 1999 to 2002, Mr. Le was Deputy Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations in New York, having held the portfolio of Deputy Director-General, Department of International Organizations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1998 and 1999.  Mr. Le served as Officer and then as Assistant Director-General in the same Department, from 1995 to 1998.  Also in the Ministry, he worked from 1982 to 1983, and again from 1986 until 1990, as an officer in the Department of General Political Affairs.


He held posts at Viet Nam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, serving as Third Secretary between 1991 and 1993, and as Attaché from 1983 to 1986. 


The new envoy holds a Master of Arts degree in law and diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, United States (1993-1995); and a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations from the School of Foreign Affairs, Hanoi, Viet Nam (1977-1982).


Mr. Le was born in Hanoi on 27 April 1961.
